5 Questions to ask at your interview
Interviews can be daunting, they can be exciting and sometimes they can be disappointing. Whether you are on the look out for a new challenge or just starting out in your career check out the advice below.
Foods to nourish a busy therapist
We have all been there, our lunch break is either rushed, non-existent or at a very un-lunchy time, where your staff canteen may have even stopped serving. Or maybe it is so early into your ten hour day it feels like you’ve just had breakfast. Or maybe you don’t have the luxury of a staff canteen and yours is a packed lunch in the stock room.
“Oh, so you paint nails for a living?”
Working in the spa world is often misconstrued as an easy, airy fairy, (mainly) girly job for those who like makeup and painting nails, often put down by many school career advisors and teachers alike or suggested for the student who perhaps isn’t academic.
Meet The Mentor - Abi Wright
Abi is the founder of Spa Breaks, Europe’s largest spa booking agency. Before starting the website she worked in the world of hotel spas for more than ten years and in that time she got to know how many amazing experiences were available. However, she felt that the message wasn’t getting out there and that spas were seen in a very linear way - as the domain of rich, perfect women with perfect lives and lots of money. She wanted to show everything that spas had to offer - from the real wellness side of things to the fun of an afternoon tea with friends and facials and how important all of that is to wellbeing.
Meet The Mentor - Tracey Woodward
Tracey has dominated the beauty industry, holding roles at some of the most influential beauty brands including Aveda, Urban Retreat Spa at Harrods and Harvey Nichols, as well as working as an advisor for Marks & Spencer where she helped re-design and develop the beauty department. Most recently Tracey was CEO at Aromatherapy Associates and this is where Tracey and I crossed paths.
What makes a great therapist?
As an advocate and mentor for the beauty and wellness industry, I am often asking myself “What makes a great therapist?” What do we do well? What needs to improve? How can we continue to confidently bring in the next generation of beauty and wellness therapists into a sector we are proud of.
Meet The Mentor - Fran Hayter
Recently I have spoken to Fran Hayter, with over 40 years Beauty & Business experience Fran was an obvious choice for my mentor series, a lady who has always offered sound advice and valuable insight whenever our paths have crossed. Running global businesses, supporting the Industry with her recruitment company Daily Placements and now most recently with Plasma Elite.
Meet The Mentor - Peigin Crowley
I first met Peigin over 5 years ago in a stuffy office in Mayfair, talking about male grooming, her energy and instant welcoming personality as well as expanse knowledge was obvious and since then I have been lucky enough to work with her on projects and call on her for advice and mentoring. She’s one of the reasons I am now a Spa Consultant, and still gives me advice and her time freely.
